Dive Into Advanced – Graphic design platform Canva is expect to raise its subscription fees with the introduction of new generative AI features.
According to a report by The Verge on September 5, 2024, Canva’s Teams, the subscription plan geared towards businesses that supports multiple users, may see a price increase of up to 300 percent.
Canva explains that this subscription price hike is necessary due to the “expanded product experience” and the added value that the generative AI tools bring to the platform.
For example, in the United States, some Canva Teams users have reported a subscription increase from USD 120 per year for up to five users to USD 500 per year.
This price increase is consider steep, even though a 40 percent discount will be apply, reducing the Canva Teams subscription cost to USD 300 for the first 12 months.
In Australia, the subscription cost remains at AUD 39.99 (approximately USD 26) per month for five users. This translates to an increase to AUD 13.50 (around USD 9) per additional user.
As a result, a team of five will need to pay at least 68 percent more, not accounting for any additional discounts.

In April, Canva’s quietly adjusted its offerings for new Canva Teams subscribers to USD 10 per user per month, with a minimum requirement of three users.
Louisa Green, Canva’s Lead Communications representative, mentioned that existing users will also be transition to the new subscription rates starting this September. “This change reflects the fact that our current package pricing and product experience have been significantly enhance,” she said.
“The Canva product suite has expanded considerably in recent years, with new offerings such as Visual Suite and Magic Studio,” Green added.
Canva has introduced numerous generative AI features over the past few years, including the Magic Media text-to-image generator and the Magic Expand background extension tool.
These additions have transformed the platform from a simple design and marketing tool into a broader workspace offering.
Canva has previously announced similar price changes. The latest price increase is expect to be communicated exclusively via customer email.
Other subscription tiers, such as Pro and Enterprise, will not be affected by this rate hike.
The significant increase in premium pricing may mark a dramatic shift for Canva, as it was once seen as a simple and affordable alternative in the graphic design software market.
