This List feature was developed in response to user feedback, addressing the need for an easier way to locate important messages amid numerous chats. With this feature, users can categorize their conversations into groups such as family, work, or friends.
Using the List feature is straightforward. Users simply tap the “+” icon on the search bar at the top of the Chat tab to create a new list.
After creating a list, users can add groups or individual chats to it. They also have the option to edit or delete the list at any time.
“Similar to the ‘favorites’ feature, you can add groups and personal chats to your list, and any list you create will appear in the filter bar,” the Meta-owned messaging app stated.
Additionally, WhatsApp is allowing users to personalize the app’s appearance.
With the chat theme customization feature, users can choose from 22 different themes to make their conversations more personal.

Previously, WhatsApp’s theme customization options were limited to Default, Light, and Dark modes.
However, with the beta version 2.24.21.34 available through the Google Play Beta Program, Android users will now have access to 20 color variations for themes.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, users can also access a new settings page for chat themes, enabling them to change chat colors and wallpapers according to their preferences.
As reported by Android Police on Monday (October 14, 2024), users can select a default theme that applies to all conversations or set different themes for individual chats.
Whenever a new theme is apply, WhatsApp will automatically adjust the selected chat colors. For those seeking more customization, specific conversation colors can also be change manually.
The good news is that this customization is personal. Only the user will see the theme changes, so there’s no need to worry about how the chat will appear to the message recipient.
While this feature has been launch in beta, access remains limited to a small group of users.
On iOS, this feature is also becoming available with the WhatsApp update 24.20.71, but not all iPhone users can access it yet.

According to an official WhatsApp statement on Thursday (October 3, 2024), with these new effects, users can change their backgrounds or add filters during video calls. The introduction of background filters can make video calls more personal.
The filters are design to help users create a more enjoyable atmosphere, from adding splashes of color to making the video look more artistic.
Meanwhile, the background feature helps maintain privacy during video calls while making users appear to be in a different location, such as a cozy living room or an aesthetic café, thus creating a cleaner and more organized appearance.
So far, WhatsApp has provide 10 filters and 10 backgrounds that can be chose and combine to create a unique look during video calls.
