Dive Into Advanced – Google is set to enhance the search experience on desktop PCs by expanding its Circle to Search feature. Previously this feature only available on mobile devices, to the Chrome browser on computers. This feature will be accessible through the Google Lens icon located in the URL bar (omnibox), next to the bookmark star icon. Circle to Search, an upgraded version of Google Lens. Offers a new way to search for information by simply circling content on your screen, making searches more intuitive and efficient.
Originally launched on the Samsung Galaxy S24 in mid-Januar. Circle to Search has since been rolled out to other Samsung Galaxy flagship models and Google Pixel phones. This feature allows users to search for visual content displayed on their screens such as photos, videos from galleries, Instagram Stories, or TikTok/YouTube Shorts—by drawing a circle around it. This eliminates the need for screenshots or typing search queries.
Google now plans to bring this functionality to desktop versions of Chrome. To activate Circle to Search on a PC, users will click the Google Lens icon in the omnibox. A notification saying “Select anything to search with Google Lens” will appear, accompanied by a starburst effect. The cursor will change to a crosshair with a magnifying glass labeled “Drag to search” and the Lens icon. Users can double-click to select the area they want to search. Adjust the search box, and view the search results in a small panel on the side of the screen. Displaying details such as names, prices, and purchasing options.

The introduction of Circle to Search for Chrome on desktops simplifies the process of finding information on-screen without needing to copy images or URLs. This feature is especially helpful when users are unsure of the exact keywords needed. For instance, it can assist in identifying a tantalizing Korean street food item whose name is unknown. A unique vase that’s hard to describe, or the brand of clothing worn by a favorite celebrity.
According to 9to5Google, this feature is currently being tested in ChromeOS 127 beta and Chrome 128 beta versions. And also has appeared in Google’s “What’s New in Chrome” page. This suggests that it may soon be available to a broader audience in its stable release.
